Nurses? Perhaps among the most stressed

Per una pura credenza metropolitana di notte il lavoro negli ospedali è più tranquillo, così il personale infermieristico e medico è present in smaller numbers than the day shift, and the few nurses in the ward are forced to deal with critical situations alone, without adequate medical support.

A research study conducted by the quarterly journal, nursing and research has shown that at night there is a work overload for nurses, because patients can see in the dark hours the heightened state of anxiety and concern due to the state health and constantly demanding the intervention of the nurses for information about their health as well as simply to be reassured.

a sample of 115 patients hospitalized in four different departments of the University Hospital of Udine, checked for twelve consecutive nights, it was found that each patient is called the nurses four times, with an incidence of 42.4% between 21 and 23, and that only 3.1% of cases were actually needed the intervention of the doctor on call.

This research clearly demonstrates the increased workload for nurses at night, both for the psychological pressure of the patients, both for the small number of personnel, both for purely organizational problems (medical records and test results stored in places far from the lanes) with an increase in work-related stress, which results in the first real risk of failure to assist the patient and then more injuries in the category (mean accidents involving workers in the health sector are greater than 30% compared to other categories of workers).

The symptoms and diseases related to work stress that affect night nurses are increasing with the result of an increased number of work absences due to illness.

This entails further reduction of available resources and a negative psychological impact on patients admitted who feel less secure about their health status, a major source of anxiety and depression that cause a deterioration in the general clinical condition, often results in consequences irreparabili.
